Community
Leadership
In 1992, Ms. Muñoz's drive for social change
led her to Alianza Dominicana, Inc., a community
service agency in the Washington Heights area.
During her four years at Alianza, she founded
the teen-parenting program "Breaking the
Cycle," (BTC). The program was successful
in helping adolescent parents return to school
by providing them with academic and leadership
training.
The
success of BTC fueled Ms. Muñoz further
to work with Ms. Judy Wessler at the Commission
on the Public's Health System (CPHS) in the fight
for health care. In 1996, Ms. Muñoz worked
with CPHS to mobilize a citywide effort to thwart
an unpopular effort to privatize city hospitals.
Today, CPHS continues to be the first line of
defense in the fight to save public hospitals
and access to quality health care.

remaining in the Borough President's Office working
for C. Virginia Fields as a key advisor in Northern
Manhattan.
In
2001, Ms. Muñoz was appointed to the post
of Community Representative for the Honorable
